No truer words were ever been spoken than the saying, “great songs aren’t written, they are rewritten” Writing a song can’t always be fun, sometimes getting from good to great is hard work and requires craft, dedication, and patience. Learn to recognize the songs that have the potential to be great and those that don’t. ![]() So try and be more objective about your songs and don’t settle for good. The song is where it all begins and if the song doesn't have it, everything else is wasted effort. One of the most important elements is the song. So many things have to come together and fall into place in order to create something that is great. Succeeding in the music business is no easy thing. Great is what is required and even with that, there are no guarantees. All three are extremely difficult, competitive professions where good is rarely good enough. If you want to be a player in the music business, it is really no different than wanting to be a player in the NBA or NFL. If you want to increase your odds of being a successful songwriter, you should read this… I'm sure he's not the only thought leader in the operation, but it's sad to see a good idea wither and die in the hands of complacent leadership.Good is not Good Enoughīy Barry DeVorzon, hit songwriter and President of MasterWriter The man behind the idea, Barry de Vorzon, is an elder gentleman now, and apparently not quick to adapt the business to the speed of technology. It's interesting that they're soliciting feedback here when they don't even have the courtesy to respond to direct communication. I've made two attempts to engage with the company about some of my thoughts. Secondly, their customer service is appalling. It's also slow, and I have access to some of the fastest available network speeds. Dated and frustrating, at $100+ per year, it's vastly overpriced. In fact, it's third-generation interface and move to browser-based responsive design has made it harder to navigate. Masterwriter rarely updates and is the same as it was pre-subscription. The flexibility of many subscription-based products is that they evolve, often monthly, to meet the needs of their users. My issue is two-fold: their switch from a downloadable product to a subscription model and unacceptable customer service. ![]() It fills a need and adds to creativity, rather than detracting from it. An impressive response-I look forward to being proven wrong even further. This level of attention renewed my faith in the company, helped me to understand their growth pains, and offered insight into their strong forward momentum with the customer #1 on their priority list. I received two voicemails from Barry DeVorzon himself, and was finally able to chat at length yesterday. My unanswered attempts were actually being responded to in great detail-unfortunately these responses were going straight to my spam box. What I want to point out the most, is that my comments about their customer service team and leadership were completely unfounded. I was very hard on the Masterwriter team in my review below. I'm not someone who usually takes the time to review products, and when I do it's generally because I'm passionate about the experience one way or another.
